Scholarship Details 

The Pat & Bal Nash Sr Memorial Scholarship for Healthcare will be for $1,000.00 and awarded annually to one (1) qualified applicant.

All donations collected by Poland Fire Rescue or Poland Fire Rescue Benevolent Association in memory of Bal Nash Sr. or Pat Nash will be deposited into this specific scholarship fund. In addition, Poland Fire Rescue will deposit $500.00 annually from the Spring Fling benefit to the Nash scholarship fund.

Scholarship Timeline and Selection

The Nash scholarship application will be available on January 1st, with a May 1st submission deadline.  The scholarship selection committee will consist of three (3) members from PFRDBA, the Fire Rescue Chief, and one (1) member of the Nash family.

Qualified Recipient Standards

The recipient standards include::

• Has demonstrated having core values of courage, compassion, responsibility, and community.

• Is a Poland resident who is a graduating senior attending RSU16.

• Has been accepted to a continuing education institution to study in the fields of medical emergency first responder or healthcare.

• Completes an application and essay requirement.

Applicant Requirements:

• A copy of your high school transcript.

• Two letters of recommendation from a current teacher, coach, career counselor, or other school officials.

• Your response to the essay questions.  

As an option to submit a written essay, the applicant may submit a slideshow or a multimedia presentation that answers the three essay questions.

• Awards or honors received (optional)

Essay Questions: 

• Please answer each question with 200 words or less:

• Tell us about that moment when you knew the healthcare field was the right path for you.

• What does the community of Poland mean to you?

• What are your plans after graduation?  What school do you plan to attend? 

• What career do you plan to pursue? 

The essay questions can be submitted in written essay form, slideshow, or video presentation.
